Reactive Technologies Raises £25M (US$31.4M) for Global Expansion
Reactive Technologies, a prominent leader in grid stability measurements based in the UK and Finland, recently announced the successful completion of a Series D funding round. This funding round, amounting to £25 million (US$31.4 million), was spearheaded by M&G’s Catalyst investment, in collaboration with UK and Ireland growth capital investor BGF and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. EKTA Partners played a pivotal role as the exclusive financial advisor to Reactive Technologies during this transaction.
Addressing Global Challenges in Renewable Energy
As the deployment of global renewable energy accelerates, grid operators are faced with the complex challenges of grid stability, such as diminishing inertia and system strength. Reactive Technologies steps in to tackle these issues with its revolutionary GridMetrix® technology, offering system operators the capability to monitor power system stability in real time. This crucial ability empowers operators to minimize renewable curtailment, avert blackouts, and optimize expenditures on balancing services.
The escalating integration of renewables into power systems worldwide has fueled a surge in demand for Reactive’s technology, including its Tradenergy® software tailored to assist short-term power traders in navigating the intricacies of a renewables-dominated environment. The recent funding injection arrives at a critical juncture as Reactive Technologies endeavors to meet the mounting demand for its solutions.

Empowering a Net-Zero Future
M&G’s investment through Catalyst, a purpose-led private assets strategy with a focus on investing in innovative companies addressing significant environmental and social challenges, will further propel Reactive’s mission. This investment will enable Reactive Technologies to support key players in the global energy transition by providing real-time data crucial for realizing a net-zero future.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the backing received from M&G, Reactive Technologies’ CEO Marc Borrett highlighted, “This investment from M&G, alongside our existing investors BGF and BEV, signifies another significant milestone for Reactive Technologies. As we execute more projects to bolster the global transition to Net Zero, this support will empower us to scale up operations, expand our global presence, drive further innovation, and make a substantial contribution to a clean energy future.”
Enabling Sustainable Solutions Globally
Reactive Technologies’ impact extends beyond the UK, with its GridMetrix® service estimated to save approximately 18 million tonnes of CO2 annually for the UK power system, equivalent to around 5.5% of the total annual CO2 emissions in the UK. This figure is anticipated to surge significantly as enhanced measurement data enables National Grid ESO to operate safely with reduced stability levels, aligning with the pursuit of Net Zero.
Globally, GridMetrix® holds the potential to mitigate 1,450 million tons of CO2 annually. The recent funding announcement follows Reactive Technologies’ successful entry into the US market, marked by a large-scale demonstration project in New York State undertaken in collaboration with multiple utilities. With forthcoming projects lined up in the US, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, Reactive is poised for substantial commercial growth and is actively expanding its workforce to support these initiatives.
With the strategic funding received, Reactive Technologies is well-positioned to advance its global expansion initiatives, drive innovation in the renewable energy sector, and play a pivotal role in enabling a sustainable energy landscape for the future.
